NEUTRACEUTICALS & SWEETNERS
Among the most popular food ingredients and additives are sweetening agents (SA, sucrose, fructose, honey, and molasses) and sweeteners (cyclamate, aspartame, isomalt, mannitol, sorbitol, xylitol, and erythritol). Depending on their energy contribution, these ingredients are categorized as “caloric” (such as sucrose, sugar alcohols, and hydrogenated starch hydrolysates) or “non-caloric” (such as aspartame, artificial sweeteners, saccharin, stevia, acesulfame potassium, and steviol glycoside) or as “nutritious” or “non-nutritive.”
